Cultural Heritage

A number of properties in Sullivans Cove are recognised as having historic cultural heritage significance and are listed on the Tasmanian Heritage Register.  These places are considered important to Tasmania because of their contribution to our culture and society.  The Tasmanian Heritage Council maintains the Register in accordance with the Historic Cultural Heritage Act 1995.

If your property is on the Register and you intend to carry out any works, you need to obtain approval from the Heritage Council.  This is done by lodging a works application with the Sullivans Cove Waterfront Authority.  The Authority will advertise the application and refer it to the Heritage Council.

In most instances, both planning approval from the Authority and works approval from Heritage Tasmania will be required.  Normally these applications can be assessed concurrently by the responsible authorities.

For more information refer to the Authority’s information sheet ‘Making Changes to a Heritage Property’ and to Heritage Tasmania’s website at www.heritage.tas.gov.au
